Catenaa, Monday, October 19, 2026- Elon Musk pledged to give one SpaceX share to every child in the US in 2027 after Anthropic called for a public benefit fund.

“Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many.” Musk said in its X account.

However, he did not share specifics on how the shares would be distributed or other details of how the pledge might be fulfilled.

SpaceX stock rose more than 2% on Monday to $149, after losing more than 10% in the last week’s sell-off.

Musk remains a major shareholder in SpaceX, which debuted on the public markets in June 2026. His holdings included about 4.8 billion shares around the time of the listing, briefly pushing his estimated wealth above $1 trillion.

Census Bureau data puts the number at about 73 million children in the US.

SpaceX has maintained a substantial lead in global orbital launch activity during 2026. Data compiled by space industry tracker ooinsights indicates that the company transported approximately 1,950 tonnes of payload into orbit, representing about four-fifths of the worldwide total.

According to the tracker, successful orbital missions worldwide carried approximately 2,396 tonnes of payload during the year, representing a 4.7% decline from the comparable period in 2025. The report counted 236 successful launches.

Even combined, the next seven providers lifted less than a quarter of SpaceX’s total. Starship explains much of the gap. The tracker shows three flights of the heavy rocket, each carrying 120 tonnes.

Replying to the chart, Musk described SpaceX as “an anomaly in the matrix.” The phrase borrows from the film The Matrix, where an anomaly is something the system cannot explain.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk, the world’s richest person, is currently worth about $904 billion.

According to Benzinga, Musk’s offer comes after Anthropic announced in a social media post on Monday that it will commit 5% of its shares to a new “public benefit” fund.

Anthropic said it would establish the fund as a wholly owned limited liability company, and its board could also award it an additional 2% of the company’s shares for every 50% increase in Anthropic’s valuation above a baseline that has yet to be disclosed.

Benzinga reported that the proposed fund could finance nonprofit organizations, provide direct payments to specific populations and support efforts to address AI’s effects on the labor market.

The announcement comes as companies across industries increasingly deploy AI to improve efficiency, with some citing the technology when announcing job cuts.

International Monetary Fund research indicates that AI could affect around 40% of jobs globally, rising to 60% in advanced economies.
