Catenaa, Friday, November 06, 2026- Anthropic’s IPO valuation could be reduced by 50% after the recent AI stock selloff that wiped out $3 trillion on Thursday, the WSJ reported.

Anthropic’s planned stock market debut faces uncertainty as potential institutional investors reconsider the company’s proposed $1.5 trillion valuation. The Wall Street Journal reported that three prospective IPO participants believe the offering may need repricing, with one suggesting a valuation closer to $1 trillion.

The company may also need to reduce its fundraising target from $100 billion to approximately $80 billion, according to a prospective investor cited by the WSJ. Deteriorating market conditions have prompted questions about whether Anthropic should proceed with its planned November listing.

The concerns follow a selloff in AI stocks on Thursday, as investors worried that new AI legislation and stricter regulations would be brought by Democrats, who won the midterms.

US tech stocks suffered heavy losses on Thursday, with the S&P 500 down 4.4% and the Nasdaq down 6.3%, the worst day since April 2025. The Philadelphia semiconductor index slid 12.3%, NBC News reported.

Stocks partly recovered on Friday; the Nasdaq Composite was up 1.4%, and Nvidia had gained 3.4%, according to Yahoo Finance.

Reuters reported that Democrats are planning bills to shield consumers from rising electricity costs tied to AI data centers, require independent testing of advanced AI systems, and clarify when AI companies can be held liable for harm. However, any legislation would likely face steep odds while Trump remains in the White House.

The party also plans closer scrutiny of leading AI companies, including Anthropic, according to the report.

CNBC reported that Bernie Sanders has called for a “national data center moratorium.” At the same time, Texas governor-elect Gina Hinojosa has pledged to pause data center approvals in a state home to more than a quarter of planned US data center capacity.

Technology analyst Richard Windsor told The Telegraph that Anthropic’s PO is now an “escalating risk” in the current environment.

“A postponement would protect against near-term valuation risks and would be more likely if the correction sustains over a longer period,” “AlinPatel, an analyst at PitchBook, told WSJ.

According to WSJ, some investors want to see Anthropic’s October results before assuming a cut. The company’s annualized revenue run rate topped $80 billion at the end of October, and it had $146.6 billion in cash as of September 30.
