Catenaa, Saturday, November 07, 2026- Berkshire Hathaway’s profit fell by more than 28% in Q3, while the company repurchased $9.6 billion of its own shares.

Berkshire’s share repurchase activity may have slowed following a rally in its Class A shares, which recently traded above $878,000. The increase has taken the stock beyond levels seen before Warren Buffett announced his retirement plans in May 2025, according to AP.

He gave up the chairman title in September after stepping down as CEO in January to Greg Abel.

AP reported that Berkshire’s massive cash pile also returned to growing in the third quarter and reached $377.4 billion, up from $365.5 billion at the end of June.

According to AP, Berkshire reported a $22.1 billion profit, or $15,502 per Class A share, down from $30.8 billion, or $21,413 in last year’s third quarter.

“But those bottom-line figures always tend to obscure how the conglomerate’s many companies, including its insurance unit, utilities, manufacturers, and railroad, are performing.” AP report said.

Berkshire Hathaway’s operating profit declined 5.8% to $12.71 billion in the September quarter, compared with $13.49 billion a year earlier. The company uses operating earnings to assess the performance of its underlying businesses because reported net income includes changes in the market value of its investment holdings.

FactSet Research predicted Berkshire would report operating earnings of $8,821.84 per Class A share.

Berkshire operates in several industries, including insurance, utilities, transportation, and retail, with companies such as GEICO, BNSF Railway, Precision Castparts, and See’s Candies.
