Tether Shifts $1B Bitcoin, Reserves Hit 109K BTC

Tether Moves $1B in Bitcoin to Reserves, Holdings Top 109K BTC

Catenaa, Wednesday, October 01, 2025-Tether moved nearly $1 billion worth of bitcoin into its reserve wallet Tuesday, reinforcing its long-term diversification strategy and raising its total bitcoin holdings to more than 109,000 BTC, according to onchain data.

Analytics platforms Arkham and Nansen tracked 8,888.88 BTC sent from a Bitfinex hot wallet at 11:06 a.m. UTC to an address linked to Tether’s bitcoin reserves.

The transfer, valued at about $1 billion, mirrors similar end-of-quarter transactions by the stablecoin issuer.

While Tether has not formally confirmed the acquisition, the address is consistent with earlier purchases.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino later signaled on X that the move represented a fresh addition, echoing his earlier pledge that 15% of quarterly profits would be allocated to bitcoin since 2023.

If validated, the latest transfer lifts Tether’s total bitcoin treasury to about 109,410 BTC worth $12.4 billion, ranking it as the third-largest known corporate holder after Strategy and Block One.

The receiving address is now among the top 10 largest single bitcoin wallets worldwide, outside major exchanges.

Tether has steadily grown its reserves since 2022, alongside investments in gold, energy, AI, and bitcoin mining. The company also holds more than $127 billion in US Treasurys and recently introduced USAT, a regulated dollar-backed stablecoin for the US market.

Bitcoin was trading near $113,500 following the transfer. Analysts say the move highlights Tether’s increasing role in the crypto market’s liquidity backbone, with USDT supply standing at $175 billion.
