SEC’s Peirce Urges Faster Crypto Progress, Apologizes

SEC’s Peirce Calls for Faster Crypto Progress, Apologizes for Past Policies

Catenaa, Saturday, October 04, 2025- SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, known as “Crypto Mom,” urged quicker progress in cryptocurrency regulation while apologizing for the agency’s historically stricter stance toward the industry.

Speaking at the Coin Center Dinner, Peirce emphasized the importance of regulatory clarity in fostering innovation and investor protection.

Over the past year, the SEC has shifted toward a more crypto-friendly approach under Chair Paul Atkins, creating a Peirce-led Crypto Task Force, dropping multiple cases against digital asset firms, and launching “Project Crypto” to modernize rules around digital assets.

Peirce contrasted this with the previous Gensler-led era, which she criticized for relying heavily on enforcement and treating many cryptocurrencies as securities.

During her address, Peirce humorously proposed an NFT collection called “the Dog’s Breakfast,” featuring caricatures of figures in the crypto space, including one of herself and another dubbed “Lost-in-Law,” a lawyer with an unopened securities law book.

Peirce also noted her plans to pursue beekeeping after leaving the SEC, joking that honeybees sting less than online critics.

Peirce’s remarks signal a continued softening of the SEC’s regulatory posture, reflecting a broader effort to balance investor protection with support for industry growth.

The speech was widely seen as a call to action for crypto firms and developers to leverage the current environment of clarity to innovate responsibly.
