Catenaa, Wednesday, January 07, 2026- Hundreds of cryptocurrency wallets across multiple EVM chains are being drained, with roughly $107,000 lost so far as the attack continues, according to onchain analyst ZachXBT.

The attacker is targeting many wallets for small amounts, typically under $2,000 per victim, though the cumulative impact is rising steadily.

The point of entry has not been identified, and the perpetrator remains unknown, though ZachXBT flagged a suspicious address: 0xAc2e5153170278e24667a580baEa056ad8Bf9bFB.

This incident adds to a wave of crypto exploits, following 26 major attacks in December that totaled about $76 million in losses, down 60 percent from November’s $194.27 million, according to Blockchain security firm PeckShield.

Among December’s notable incidents, Trust Wallet suffered a breach in its browser extension during the Christmas holiday, resulting in approximately $7 million in losses.

Trust Wallet has begun a compensation process for affected users and temporarily removed its extension from the Chrome Web Store after a platform issue during a version update.

The update introduces a feature to allow reimbursement claimants to submit verification codes directly from the extension, helping the company confirm wallet ownership.

Security analysts warn that, with the attack ongoing and the entry point unidentified, additional wallets remain at risk across Ethereum and other EVM compatible chains.

Investors are advised to exercise caution, update wallet software, and monitor official channels for any alerts or patches.

The incident underscores persistent vulnerabilities in decentralized finance infrastructure despite improving security measures.
