Nokia Boosts TIM 5G Network Upgrade Across Italy

Nokia Boosts TIM 5G Network Upgrade Across Italy

Catenaa, Thursday, November 27, 2025- Nokia has secured an expanded role in Telecom Italia’s 5G upgrade programme, supplying additional equipment from its AirScale RAN portfolio, including Habrok 32 Massive MIMO radios and Pandion FDD multi-band remote radio heads.

The deal also includes Nokia’s Lodos 4G/5G baseband capacity card, powered by ReefShark system-on-chip technology, designed to improve scalability and reduce energy consumption.

The agreement covers new areas in addition to Nokia’s existing footprint and brings its MantaRay self-organising network solution to more locations, enhancing automation, quality, and efficiency using AI and analytics.

Analysts noted that the deal increases Nokia’s share at the expense of Ericsson rather than Huawei, which has been largely phased out of TIM’s network under Italy’s high-risk vendor restrictions.

Executives said the partnership supports Italy’s broader 5G rollout strategy, aligned with TIM’s 2025-2027 plan, which includes accelerated 5G deployment and fixed-mobile convergence.

TIM CEO Pietro Labriola highlighted that the network upgrades will enable faster, smarter, and more sustainable connectivity across the country, supporting industrial transformation and economic competitiveness.

The investment comes as TIM reported steady growth in its domestic business, with nine-month organic revenue up 2.3% year-on-year to €10 billion and service revenue rising 1.9% to €6.4 billion.

Nokia said the enhanced collaboration positions the company as a trusted partner in Italy’s next phase of digital transformation and the delivery of AI-driven services across the network.
