CATENAA, Wednesday, November 12, 2025- British Airways will roll out free, gate-to-gate Starlink Wi-Fi on all mainline and Euroflyer flights starting in 2026, part of the airline’s £7 billion transformation plan.
The upgrade aims to give passengers seamless, high-speed connectivity for streaming, work, and multiple devices throughout their journeys, including over oceans and remote regions.
The transformation plan also includes 36 new aircraft, new and renovated lounges in cities including Miami, Dubai, Seattle, Washington, Singapore, Glasgow, and London Gatwick, and AI-powered tools for predictive aircraft maintenance and operational decisions.
BA CEO Sean Doyle described the Starlink rollout as “game-changing,” noting it will differentiate the airline’s short- and long-haul flights by providing internet access comparable to home connections even at 38,000 feet.
Satellite internet provider Starlink and global internet exchange operator DE-CIX highlighted the significance of in-flight connectivity in today’s digital economy.
DE-CIX CEO Ivo Ivanov said the move underscores how satellite connectivity is evolving from a backup solution to a core part of global communications infrastructure, though he noted latency remains a barrier for some real-time applications.
British Airways joins a growing list of companies integrating satellite broadband into consumer services. BT recently announced plans to use Starlink to provide broadband to remote and rural areas across the UK, starting with pilot installations in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and rural England before expanding nationally.
The Starlink rollout positions British Airways to offer one of the most advanced in-flight internet experiences in Europe, aligning with its broader strategy to enhance customer experience through technology and connectivity.
