Catenaa, Saturday, May 30, 2026- Anthropic updated its warning about secondary markets for its shares, cutting the number of unauthorized platforms by half, after the notice caused panic among investors.
Anthropic’s blog originally flagged eight firms as unauthorized to buy or sell the company’s shares in violation of its transfer restrictions.
Anthropic stated that any sale or transfer of its stock offered by these firms is void and will not be recognized on the company’s books, with the warning applying to both preferred and common stock.
The updated version of the blog names only four firms, Open Door Partners, Unicorns Exchange, Pachamama, and Upmarket, removing some of the most prominent names in private market trading.
The move comes after the notice created confusion and worry among investors. Both Anthropic and rival OpenAI have long warned against unauthorized transactions, fine print overlooked by eager buyers until this month, when the Claude maker took the unusual step of naming specific platforms.
Publicly traded funds touting exposure plunged on the back of the update, and private brokers were reeling.
Sim Desai, Chief Executive Officer of Hiive, one of the secondary trading platforms initially named in the warning, wrote on LinkedIn two weeks ago that his platform does not facilitate share transfers “without the company’s approval.”
After Hiive’s name was removed, Desai wrote that the initial post by the artificial intelligence company had confused investors and damaged Hiive’s reputation.
“Had Anthropic approached us before their aggressive new stance and corresponding public statements (they did not), we would have gladly worked with them to deliver a unified message to the market,” Desai wrote on LinkedIn.
The dispute occurs against the backdrop of immense investor appetite for Anthropic shares.
The company raised $65 billion in a new funding round announced Thursday that valued the artificial intelligence company at $965 billion, including the new investment, eclipsing rival OpenAI’s value for the first time.
