The global payments network has launched a blockchain-based shared ledger with 17 pioneer banks participating in a live operational framework designed to support round-the-clock settlement using tokenized bank deposits rather than traditional correspondent banking processes.
Built on Hyperledger Besu and integrated with Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), the system enables participating financial institutions to process cross-border transactions continuously without relying on conventional banking hours.
While the development has reignited interest in Ripple because dozens of banks participating in SWIFT’s wider payments ecosystem also maintain relationships with the company, the new infrastructure does not require XRP as part of its standard settlement process.
