Robinhood Expands to Indonesia with Acquisitions

Robinhood enters Indonesia with acquisitions

Catenaa, Wednesday, December 10, 2025- Robinhood Markets Inc. is moving into Indonesia through agreements to acquire licensed firms PT Buana Capital Sekuritas, a brokerage, and PT Pedagang Aset Kripto, a crypto trading platform.

The deals, expected to close in the first half of 2026, mark the US firm’s first foray into one of Asia’s fastest-growing retail investment markets. No details on post-acquisition integration have been disclosed.

Indonesia has seen rapid growth in digital finance, with mobile payments and crypto adoption surging. The country’s digital economy is projected to reach $99 billion in 2025, while digital payments are forecast to rise from $340 billion in 2023 to $538 billion by 2025.

Financial inclusion has expanded sharply, with adult account ownership rising from 20% in 2011 to 60% by 2024. Despite gains, Indonesia remains among the largest populations in East Asia and the Pacific without formal financial accounts.

Robinhood’s entry could increase access to low-cost trading and investment tools, though uptake will depend on consumer adoption and enforcement of Indonesia’s new crypto licensing and tax framework.

New rules introduced this year classify digital assets as financial instruments under Otoritas Jasa Keuangan supervision and levy taxes on domestic and offshore crypto trades.

The country ranks among the top markets for crypto adoption globally, according to Chainalysis, with the Asia-Pacific region leading overall. Robinhood’s acquisitions signal an effort to capitalize on rising retail participation and expand its international footprint in a regulated environment.
