Caroline Ellison Set for January Release

Caroline Ellison to exit custody soon

Catenaa, Wednesday, December 31, 2025-Caroline Ellison, the former co-CEO of Alameda Research, is scheduled to be released from federal custody on January 21, 2026, according to records from the US Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Ellison, 31, has been in community confinement since October after being transferred from a federal prison in Connecticut.

She began serving a two-year sentence in November 2024 following her guilty plea to fraud and conspiracy charges linked to the 2022 collapse of FTX, which caused billions of dollars in customer losses.

A federal judge sentenced Ellison in September 2024 and ordered her to forfeit $11 billion.

Her expected January release comes roughly 10 months earlier than the full term, reflecting credits typically granted for good conduct and cooperation, according to court and corrections records.

Ellison played a central role in the prosecution of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, cooperating with investigators and testifying during his criminal trial.

Bankman-Fried was later convicted on multiple fraud charges and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Court filings tied to the FTX bankruptcy case credited Ellison with assisting in asset recovery efforts that returned hundreds of millions of dollars to creditors. Her cooperation was cited by the bankruptcy estate as materially aiding ongoing investigations into the exchange’s failure.

As part of a separate agreement reached earlier this month, Ellison accepted a 10-year ban from serving as an officer or director of public companies or cryptocurrency exchanges.

She will remain under supervised release following her departure from custody.

Bankman-Fried remains incarcerated and is currently scheduled for release in 2044 while pursuing appeals and seeking executive clemency.
