Catenaa, Friday, November 07, 2025-Nokia has unveiled an artificial intelligence-powered 6G receiver designed to extend network coverage and reduce deployment costs by overcoming the range limits of high-frequency spectrum bands.

Developed by Nokia Bell Labs, the receiver uses machine learning to boost uplink distance by 10% to 25% compared with current technology.

The innovation aims to let operators roll out 6G using existing 5G infrastructure, accelerating market readiness while cutting costs.

The prototype was tested under real-world conditions with 6G test equipment from German firm Rohde & Schwarz.

The companies will present a proof of concept this week at the Brooklyn 6G Summit. Nokia said the receiver also improved data throughput and power efficiency, key factors in next-generation mobile performance.

Peter Vetter, president of Bell Labs Core Research, said AI-driven coverage gains could reduce the need for dense cell networks as 6G evolves.

Rohde & Schwarz said the collaboration builds on its long history in signal testing and measurement.

The project follows Nokia’s recent partnership with Ericsson and Berlin’s Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute to develop a more efficient video codec for 6G applications, part of broader European standardization efforts.
