Malaysia U Mobile to Deploy 5G Indoor Networks Across IGB Properties

Catenaa, Sunday, December 21, 2025- Malaysian mobile operator U Mobile this week said it would deploy indoor 5G coverage across key properties owned by real estate group IGB.

This expands its footprint as it races to compete with the country’s incumbent wholesale network provider.

Under the agreement, U Mobile will roll out indoor 5G solutions at 20 sites that together account for about 70% of IGB’s high-traffic locations across retail, commercial and hospitality segments.

The sites include major shopping malls, hotels and office buildings in Kuala Lumpur and other urban areas.

Among the locations is Mid Valley Megamall, one of Southeast Asia’s largest shopping centres, which spans about 1.8 million square feet of retail space and houses more than 500 shops, alongside a large exhibition centre. Two other malls, five hotels and multiple office complexes are also included in the deployment.

The network will operate on a wholesale basis, allowing rival retail service providers to access the infrastructure.

The move strengthens U Mobile’s position as Malaysia’s second wholesale 5G provider, following the government-backed Digital Nasional Berhad, which had achieved more than 80% population coverage before U Mobile launched its own 5G services in August.

U Mobile has said it aims to cover 80% of populated areas within its first year of operation. Local media reported coverage had already exceeded 58% by October, underscoring the pace of its rollout.
