Cobham Buys Gatehouse to Expand 5G NTN Tech

Cobham acquires Gatehouse for 5G NTN

Catenaa, Saturday, December 13, 2025-Cobham Satcom Group has acquired Danish firm Gatehouse Satcom, consolidating their satellite communications operations and strengthening 5G non-terrestrial network (NTN) capabilities for commercial, government, and defense customers.

The deal merges Cobham’s Network Division expertise with Gatehouse’s 3GPP-compatible 5G NTN software and hardware solutions.

Gatehouse CEO Kenney Schmidt Christiansen will lead the combined division, which aims to deliver end-to-end satellite communications platforms while accelerating the adoption of 5G NTN.

Cobham CEO Christophe Duret described the move as creating “significant strategic opportunities” amid the rapid transformation of the satellite industry.

No financial terms were disclosed. Both firms, being Danish, are expected to integrate operations smoothly, leveraging their shared industry experience. T

he acquisition positions Cobham to better compete in the growing satellite market, particularly against other telecom and satellite operators expanding 5G coverage through non-terrestrial systems.

Cobham Satcom will integrate Gatehouse technology with its existing offerings, enhancing network software, ground station management, and service provision for both private and public sector clients.

The combined entity aims to provide satellite operators and service providers with a more robust technology roadmap and operational scale, enabling improved end-to-end solutions for NTN deployment.

The acquisition reflects broader industry trends where satellite operators are consolidating to deliver higher-capacity, low-latency connectivity, and support emerging applications such as remote connectivity, defense communications, and IoT networks.
