Vodacom, Starlink Expand Africa Connectivity

Vodacom and Starlink partnership expanding satellite connectivity across Africa

Catenaa, Thursday, November 20, 2025-Vodacom has partnered with Starlink to provide low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity across its eight-country footprint in Africa, aiming to serve enterprises, small businesses, and remote communities.

The deal enables Vodacom to resell Starlink equipment and services while tailoring packages and pricing to local market needs.

The partnership targets corporate sectors including mining, oil and gas, agriculture, tourism, retail, and financial services, as well as remote schools, healthcare centres, and communities.

Products will include pay-as-you-go backup internet, 100% unbreakable internet, device-as-a-service solutions, and branch network pooling.

Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub said the collaboration accelerates the company’s goal to bridge the digital divide in regions where traditional infrastructure is not feasible, supporting broader connectivity and socio-economic development.

Starlink’s VP Chad Gibbs noted the arrangement will expand reliable high-speed access across Africa.

The deal aligns with Vodacom’s Vision 2030 strategy, under which the operator aims to reach 260 million users and 120 million financial services customers within five years.

As of September, Vodacom reported 223.2 million users and 93.7 million financial services clients, indicating progress toward its targets.

Starlink continues to secure high-profile partnerships globally, including British Airways’ in-flight Wi-Fi, BT’s planned home broadband services in the UK, and Virgin Media O2’s upcoming direct-to-cell service, underscoring its leading position in the LEO connectivity market.
