Vodacom Partners With Google Cloud to Advance AI in Africa

Catenaa, Saturday, November 29, 2025-Vodacom is teaming up with Google Cloud to integrate generative AI and unified data infrastructure across its operations, aiming to improve efficiency and deliver new AI-powered services for African consumers.

The collaboration will see Vodacom consolidate its data onto Google Cloud, creating a single, secure source of truth to support large-scale AI deployment.

Generative AI models including Gemini, Veo, and Imagen will be applied to optimize network performance, enhance customer service, and detect fraud using advanced machine learning.

Vodacom plans to use AI to develop fintech offerings, enterprise solutions, and tools for improving content accessibility and education.

The initiative reflects a broader effort to accelerate AI adoption across the African continent and strengthen digital infrastructure.

Google Cloud executives emphasized their support for Vodacom’s vision. Maureen Costello, Vice President for UKI and SSA at Google Cloud, said the partnership would provide access to advanced AI models and infrastructure to drive innovation across the region.

The project aligns with global trends as telecom operators modernize with AI and cloud technologies. Experts warn that telcos slow to adopt AI risk falling behind in operational efficiency and customer experience.

Google Cloud has previously collaborated with firms such as NTT Data and Deutsche Telekom to deploy agentic AI solutions capable of analyzing network behavior and autonomously initiating corrective actions.
