6G AI-AI Trials Double Wireless Speeds

Engineers testing 6G AI-AI wireless technology showing doubled data speeds

Catenaa, November 24, 2025- NTT Docomo, in collaboration with Nokia Bell Labs and SK Telecom, has conducted 6G trials in Yokosuka City, Japan, using AI at both the transmitting and receiving ends of the wireless interface.

The “AI-AI” technology reportedly improved throughput by up to 100% compared with conventional non-AI methods, effectively doubling communication speeds under real-world outdoor conditions.

The trials aimed to address fluctuations in radio propagation that can cause unstable connections. By optimizing modulation and demodulation schemes according to environmental conditions, AI-AI technology maintained stable communication across diverse use cases.

Tests included mobile terminals in motion and obstacles in the signal path, simulating complex propagation environments such as varying temperatures, weather, and physical barriers.

Results showed average throughput improvements of 18% and maximum gains of 100%, confirming the system’s ability to compensate for signal degradation and maintain performance outdoors.

Executives said the technology combines high transmission efficiency with low power consumption, marking a step toward practical 6G systems.

NTT Docomo plans to continue refining AI-AI technology under different conditions while collaborating with global partners to advance 6G standardization and implementation.

Analysts noted that innovations like this could be critical for leveraging higher-frequency spectrum, which typically suffers from poorer propagation, and for enabling future 6G networks across urban and challenging environments.

The trial reinforces the role of AI in next-generation wireless systems, highlighting the potential for intelligent network design to overcome environmental limitations and enhance data speeds.
