Nokia Unveils High-Speed AI Data Centre Switches

Nokia launches high-speed AI switches and upgraded AIOps tools

Catenaa, Tuesday, November 18, 2025- Nokia has unveiled new 7220 Interconnect Router (IXR-H6) switches and upgraded AI operations tools to support data centre workloads driven by agentic AI applications.

The launch targets faster AI training, inference, and network reliability in large-scale data centres.

The 7220 IXR-H6 switches deliver up to 102.4 Tb/s with interface speeds of 800 GE and 1.6 TE, doubling throughput in the same footprint.

They comply with Ultra Ethernet Consortium standards and include features to optimize packet flow, prevent congestion, and enhance efficiency for AI environments with up to one million XPUs.

Both liquid- and air-cooled options are available, compatible with multiple rack configurations, and configurable with Nokia’s SR Linux or open-source SONiC operating systems.

Nokia’s Event-Driven Automation platform now includes agentic AI capabilities. The AIOps upgrade combines natural language interaction with AI reasoning to detect issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement fixes.

Combined with real-time telemetry, digital twins, dry-run, and instant roll-back functions, Nokia cites studies showing a potential 96% reduction in data centre downtime.

The 7220 IXR-H6 switches will be released in Q1 2026, and the AIOps enhancements will be available by year-end.

The launch follows a $1 billion investment by Nvidia in October, representing about 2.9% of Nokia shares, to support AI-RAN development and data centre networking expansion.

Analysts highlight the upgrades as timely amid growing AI adoption and Ethernet’s rising dominance in network infrastructure.
