Catenaa, Friday, May 22, 2026- Google unveiled a broad expansion of its Gemini artificial intelligence platform across Android phones, laptops, cars, watches and web services this week as the company races to turn its software ecosystem into what executives describe as an “intelligence system” rather than a traditional operating system.
The rollout will begin this summer on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones before expanding later this year into Android Auto, Chrome, wearable devices and a new category of AI-focused laptops called Googlebooks.
The push marks one of Google’s largest attempts yet to weave generative AI directly into daily consumer activity, from shopping and messaging to navigation, scheduling and web browsing.
AI Expands Across Android
Google said Gemini will increasingly automate tasks by understanding text, images and on-screen activity in real time.
One new feature allows users to hold the power button over content displayed on a screen and ask Gemini to perform actions instantly.
Google demonstrated the feature using a grocery list stored in a notes application. Gemini could automatically create a delivery shopping cart without requiring users to switch between applications manually.
The company also upgraded Android’s autofill and speech-to-text systems through a tool called Rambler, designed to recognize conversational speech patterns and turn them into shorter, cleaner written messages.
Another feature called Create My Widget allows users to generate customized home screen widgets through text prompts.
For example, users could request weekly high-protein meal recommendations and automatically receive a personalized dashboard displaying recipes and meal plans.
Chrome Gains AI Assistant
Beginning in June, Gemini will also expand into Google Chrome.
The browser integration will allow users to summarize webpages, compare information across tabs and automate online tasks such as booking appointments or reserving parking spaces.
Google said Gemini inside Chrome will also connect directly with applications including Gmail, Google Calendar and Keep.
The company said users who opt into “Personal Intelligence” settings may receive more personalized responses based on hobbies, interests and previous activity.
Cars And Devices Added
Google is also redesigning Android Auto around AI-driven customization and immersive navigation.
The updated Google Maps experience introduces detailed 3D visuals showing terrain, buildings, traffic lights and overpasses to assist drivers with lane changes and complex intersections.
Widgets and customizable layouts are also being added to in-car displays.
Gemini integration will later expand to smartwatches, smart glasses and additional connected devices.
Googlebook Debuts
Google also revealed plans for a new laptop category called Googlebook. The devices are being developed with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo. Google described the laptops as AI-centered systems built around Gemini integration.
One feature called Magic Pointer offers contextual suggestions depending on where a user moves the cursor on the screen.
Googlebooks will also integrate closely with Android smartphones and include AI-generated widgets similar to those coming to Android devices.
The company released few technical specifications but said the laptops would feature premium designs and a distinctive “Glowbar” lighting system.
AI Race Intensifies
Google’s latest expansion comes as major technology firms continue pouring billions into consumer AI products.
The company is attempting to position Gemini as a constant digital assistant embedded throughout its ecosystem rather than a standalone chatbot.
Critics and reviewers, though, continue questioning whether AI integrations deliver enough practical value for everyday users beyond convenience features and automation tools.
Technology analysts say consumer response during the coming months could determine whether AI assistants become central to operating systems or remain secondary software features.
