AI to Accelerate Job Replacement in 2026

AI predicted to replace jobs in 2026

Catenaa, Tuesday, December 30, 2025-Artificial intelligence is expected to advance further in 2026, enabling the technology to replace a growing number of human jobs, according to computer scientist Geoffrey Hinton.

Hinton, often called the “godfather of AI,” said AI is already capable of handling call center work and will soon perform more complex tasks, including software engineering, that currently require months of human labor.

In an interview on CNN’s State of the Union, Hinton noted that AI improves at a rapid pace, doubling its efficiency approximately every seven months.

He warned that the technology’s ability to reason and, in some cases, deceive to complete goals, raises concerns over safety and societal impact.

Hinton acknowledged AI’s potential to benefit medicine, education, and climate research, but stressed that the risks, including job displacement and unethical use, are not receiving sufficient attention.

He highlighted tradeoffs made by AI companies, where profit motives may outweigh safety considerations.

Citing recent trends, Hinton noted that entry-level opportunities are shrinking as AI adoption accelerates. Job postings at some firms have dropped roughly 30% since the release of ChatGPT, while companies like Amazon report workforce reductions alongside efficiency gains from AI.

He predicted a future in which AI generates massive unemployment while concentrating wealth among a small group of beneficiaries, reflecting broader capitalist incentives.

Hinton has repeatedly sounded warnings about AI’s societal consequences, emphasizing that while the technology offers substantial benefits, its rapid expansion could disrupt employment and economic balance worldwide.
