GE Vernova & Samsung Partner to Expand BWRX-300 SMRs

Catenaa, Wednesday, October 15, 2025-GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) and South Korea’s Samsung C&T have formed a strategic alliance to accelerate the global rollout of BWRX-300 small modular reactors, focusing on markets outside North America, including potential projects in Sweden.

The collaboration aims to strengthen supply chain development and project delivery capabilities for the BWRX-300, a 300-megawatt electric water-cooled SMR using passive safety systems.

The reactor’s first unit is under construction at Ontario Power Generation’s Darlington site in Canada, with completion expected before the decade’s end.

Maví Zingoni, CEO of Power at GE Vernova, said the partnership with Samsung C&T will bolster the BWRX-300’s position as one of the most advanced and low-risk nuclear technologies available.

Samsung C&T CEO Se-chul Oh said both companies aim to become global leaders in nuclear energy through shared expertise and coordinated project execution.

Samsung C&T, which played a major role in constructing the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates, brings over four decades of nuclear and infrastructure experience to the partnership.

The BWRX-300 design, based on GE Hitachi’s ESBWR reactor, is already under consideration for several international projects. Sweden’s Vattenfall has shortlisted it for development near its Ringhals plant, while Poland’s Orlen Synthos Green Energy and Estonia’s Fermi Energia have also announced plans to deploy the technology.
