Telefónica Tech Launches SSI Tool

Telefónica Tech SSI tool

Catenaa, Tuesday, January 20, 2026-Telefónica Tech has unveiled a Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) solution aimed at helping organizations comply with the European Union’s upcoming digital identity framework, according to a report on Telecoms.com.

The tool leverages verifiable credentials to enable companies and public bodies to issue, verify, and manage digital identities while giving individuals control over their personal data.

SSI allows users to decide what personal information is shared, with whom, and when, using verifiable credentials stored on personal devices

The solution supports a range of applications, from civil registration and driving licenses to age verification, secure access to private or critical infrastructure, and fraud prevention in online commerce.

Under the EU framework, the EUDI Wallet will become a standard across member states by the end of 2026.

Telefónica Tech’s tool is designed to integrate with this system, simplifying credential issuance through QR codes and enabling users to present identity information without sharing unnecessary data.

For example, a citizen could verify their place of residence digitally to a local council without sending physical documents.

Elena Gil Lizasoain, Director of AI and Data at Telefónica Tech, said the platform ensures transparency throughout an identity’s life cycle and gives individuals control over when and how their data is shared.

The solution aligns with similar efforts by Deutsche Telekom and Scytáles, which developed secure age-verification tools for EU digital identity initiatives.

Telefónica Tech’s SSI platform positions organizations to meet regulatory requirements while enhancing user privacy, security, and operational efficiency in digital interactions.
