Solana ETF inflows and price breakout chart showing SOL rally above $89 in March 2026

March 14, 2026 – Institutional demand stays firm despite 57% price drop since ETF launch; long-to-short ratio hits monthly high

Solana extended its weekly gains on Friday, trading above $89. The token rose nearly 10% this week. Spot exchange-traded funds recorded consecutive daily inflows. Derivatives data confirmed a shift in trader sentiment toward bullish positioning.

SoSoValue data shows spot SOL ETFs attracted $3.92 million on Thursday. That followed a $1.66 million inflow on Wednesday, per FXStreet. Weekly flows totaled $3.10 million, marking the fifth consecutive positive week since mid-February. Cumulative inflows since the July 2025 launch stand at roughly $957 million, according to The Coin Republic.

Institutional Demand Defies 57% Price Decline

SOL has dropped roughly 57% since ETFs launched in July 2025. Yet cumulative inflows remain near $957 million. Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Eric Balchunas noted the funds retained capital through the downturn. He described this resilience as unusual for newly launched products.

Roughly 50% of ETF holders are identifiable through 13F filings, per Bloomberg Intelligence analyst James Seyffart. That level of institutional transparency is notable for funds less than nine months old. Major holders include Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Electric Capital, and Multicoin Capital, according to BeInCrypto.

Total ETF net assets stand at approximately $814 million. About 1.6% of Solana’s market cap is locked in these vehicles. Seyffart ruled out basis trading as a driver. The annualised Solana basis yield fell to 0% in early 2026, per Crypto Times.

Derivatives Market Tilts Bullish

CoinGlass data shows funding rates flipped positive on Thursday. The rate reached 0.0079%, meaning longs are now paying shorts. This typically indicates bullish sentiment among leveraged traders.

The long-to-short ratio climbed to 1.07, the highest level in over a month. Open interest stands at $5.01 billion. Combined, these metrics suggest growing conviction in upside positioning. However, roughly $19.79 million in positions were liquidated within 24 hours, per TradingPedia.

Technical Levels and Key Risks

SOL has consolidated between $77 and $92 in recent weeks. It currently trades near the upper boundary of that range. Analyst Ali Martinez flagged a Bollinger Bands squeeze on the daily chart. The bands contracted around $86.4, a pattern that often precedes sharp directional moves.

A decisive break above $92 could open the path toward $100. That level aligns with the descending trendline resistance. If SOL fails to hold above $85, support at $77 comes into focus. Losing $77 would likely extend the consolidation phase, per CryptoNews.

Network Strength Underpins the Bull Case

Solana processed $650 billion in stablecoin volume in February 2026, according to DMarketForces. Total value locked across DeFi protocols sits between $6.7 billion and $6.9 billion, per DefiLlama. Real-world asset tokenisation on Solana has surpassed $1 billion in TVL, according to CoinMarketCap.

Whale activity adds to the bullish picture. A newly created wallet withdrew and staked 200,000 SOL, worth $17.17 million, per DMarketForces. The Alpenglow consensus upgrade, targeting 150-millisecond finality, is expected later this year. State Street plans to launch tokenised funds on the network.

Headwinds Remain

The FTX estate still holds hundreds of millions in SOL. Periodic distributions could add supply during rallies. Approximately 3.9 million SOL moved to exchanges over the past three weeks, per CryptoNews. That is worth over $298 million at current prices.

The SEC has delayed decisions on spot Solana ETF applications. Fidelity and 21Shares are among the applicants awaiting clarity. Without regulatory resolution, institutional momentum may remain capped. Geopolitical tensions have also weighed on broader risk appetite across crypto and equities.

What to Watch

The $92 resistance level is the immediate test. A breakout with volume could shift the medium-term trend. ETF flow data from SoSoValue and CoinGlass derivatives metrics will be critical signals. Exchange netflows will indicate whether profit-taking accelerates at higher prices.

The divergence between strong network activity and modest price recovery defines Solana’s current story. Institutional capital appears committed. The breakout thesis hinges on whether that commitment translates into sustained buying pressure above key resistance levels.
