Amazon Launches Alexa+ Web Chat

Amazon Alexa+ web chat launch

Catenaa, Friday, January 09, 2026- Amazon has launched a browser-based version of its AI assistant, Alexa+, allowing some users to chat with the service online and directly compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

The Alexa.com website is currently available only to Alexa+ users, who must join a waitlist or own certain newer Amazon devices.

The platform enables users to ask questions, explore complex topics, create content, plan trips, complete homework, and manage smart home devices through a single chat interface.

Previously, Alexa+ was accessible only through mobile apps or Echo devices.

By introducing a web-based version, Amazon aims to expand how users interact with its AI assistant and align more closely with popular browser-based AI chatbots from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and others.

Alexa+ debuted in February 2025 and has been gradually rolled out to tens of millions of users.

The company previewed the Alexa.com web interface last year, noting that early access would be provided in the months following the launch.

Amazon has cited pressure to modernize its devices and AI capabilities amid the growing popularity of generative AI platforms like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

The browser chat feature underscores Amazon’s strategy to make Alexa+ a versatile tool for both practical tasks and creative applications while reinforcing its presence in the competitive AI assistant market.
