Citi to Launch Crypto Custody Services in 2026

Catenaa, Friday, October 17, 2025-Global bank Citi plans to launch a crypto custody service in 2026, marking its entry into the growing market for digital asset services.

The service, in development over the past two to three years, will allow Citi to hold digital coins and tokens on behalf of clients, including asset managers, according to an interview with Biswarup Chatterjee, Citi’s global head of partnerships and innovation. The bank did not immediately comment further.

Citi joins other mainstream financial institutions expanding into digital assets. JP Morgan is advancing stablecoin development, while Morgan Stanley is enabling clients to trade Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana via its E-Trade platform.

The US Bank recently restarted crypto custody services for institutional investors after pausing operations due to regulatory uncertainty.

Last week, Citi, along with Banco Santander, Bank of America, Barclays, BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, MUFG Bank, TD Bank Group, and UBS, announced a joint effort to explore a “1:1 reserve-backed form of digital money,” highlighting the broader institutional shift toward regulated crypto adoption.
